Dr. Ketan Parmar is a Psychiatrist in Mumbai with over 25 years of experience. An alumnus of Topiwala National Medical College and BYL Nair Charitable Hospital, Dr. Parmar obtained the postgraduate MD (Psychiatry) degree in January 1990 and Diploma in Psychological Medicine (DPM) in 1992. He has been functioning as a Consultant Psychiatrist since May 1992 and is Ex-Honorary Associate Psychiatrist, Department of Psychiatry, KB Bhabha Hospital, Mumbai.

Dr. Ketan Parmar is proficient in the management of various psychiatric disorders and emergencies such as handling violent schizophrenic and manic patients. He has experience in the treatment of substance abuse disorders and delirium; management of personality disorders such as borderline personality and anti-social personality; suicide prevention; and, administering electroconvulsive therapy.

Dr. Parmar held the post of Lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry at BYL Nair Hospital & TN Medical College in September 1991 and then at LTMG Hospital and LTM Medical College, Mumbai, from September 1991 to April 1992. During this period he independently managed the OPD and indoor male and female wards as well as the specialised de-addiction OPD and male & female indoor de-addiction wards. He gained exposure as Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist with other branches of Medicine and trained and guided postgraduate residents in the Department of Psychiatry. He took lectures for undergraduate MBBS students, postgraduate psychiatry residents, nursing students and occupational therapy students. He was responsible for conducting Behavior Therapy and Relaxation Sessions with various equipment such as Galvanic Skin Resistance, Pulse Monitor and EEG with Alpha-waves, and Group Psychotherapy sessions for Substance Abuse Groups and Deliberate Self-Harm Groups.

Dr. Ketan Parmar's special interest areas include escorting mentally disturbed patients from abroad back to India; pre-employment psychological evaluation of candidates of the merchant navy; detection of serious mental disorders by psychometric tests and mental state examination; counselling and psychotherapy; and, drug addiction detection and treatment. He has repatriated the following patients and conducted psychiatric examination of following crews:

• Repatriated an American National who had an episode of paranoid schizophrenia and was taken to San Francisco, USA, on behalf of Price Waterhouse and the American Consulate in February 1996.
• Repatriated an Italian national who had an episode of paranoid schizophrenia and drug dependence and was taken to Italy, on behalf of the Italian Consulate in May 2000.
• Repatriated an Indian national who had an episode of manic psychosis and was brought from Incheon, South Korea to India in April 2008.
• Repatriated an Indian National who had an episode of schizophrenia and was brought from Hong Kong in February 2010.
• Done medical examination and psychiatric evaluation of crew of MV Marida Marguerite, post hijack by pirates in Salalah, Oman, in January 2011.
• Done medical examination and psychiatric evaluation of crew of Bangladeshi vessel Jahan Moni, post hijack by pirates in Muscat, Oman, in March 2011.
• Done medical examination and psychiatric evaluation of crew of Asphalt Venture, post hijack by pirates at Mombasa, Kenya, in April 2011.
• Done medical examination and psychiatric evaluation of crew of Maersk Glory, post hijack attempt near Maldives by pirates. Crew was seen in Mangalore, in May 2011.
• Repatriated an Indian national who had an episode of schizophrenia and was brought from Chile, South America, in August 2013.
• Repatriated an Indian national who had an episode of manic psychosis and was brought from Singapore, in July 2014.
